Have you ever watched A&E's hit reality show, "Duck Dynasty?"
In case you're not already a fan, here's a quick snapshot of what the buzz is all about. Every week the Robertson family of West Monroe, Louisiana gives a behind-the-scenes account of life and business. They've built a multi-million dollar business (and HUGE intellectual property) on the back of .... Ducks.
That's right. They make duck calls for hunters.
The show's a riot, so you should definitely check it out. But just as important is the underlying message that you can create celebrity from practically NOTHING... in fact, the whole phenomena... now including DVDs, guest appearances on Jimmy Fallon, and more... originated from a common critter.
Hmmm... so, do you think that maybe you have any kind of common, typical critter running around your home or backyard that could be put to work for you? You know I exploit my dog, Zazu, as my marketing assistant who writes a column in my newsletter. She's more popular (and controversial) than me.
Dan Kennedy made loads of hay with his stories of the "Stamp Licking Cat" who led the charge towards direct mail dominance. More recently, Dan gives us regular accounts of the exploits of his "million dollar dog" - all tied directly to some key marketing lesson.
You don't need to grow a beard and wear camo to include your favorite animal in your marketing. You can make a star out of just about any canine, feline, hamster or reptile that happens to meander through your life. Just add a dash of personality in your marketing and you'll have a winning featured creature for your business!
