The below was a letter from 12 year old Michael Strauch to his dad, Rich Strauch.  Michael asked to attend the 2011 GKIC SuperConference with Rich this year.  Rich ask him to write a letter as to why he wanted to go.  It is an example of great parenting by Rich.  BUT it is also a terrific letter by Michael - one we adults can learn from.

Here It Is:

Glazer-Kennedy Super Conference

I think the super conference this year in Chicago is a fantastic way for me to learn great marketing tips, learn how to run a business, and most importantly teach me how to stick with a business. Good things could come out of this super conference and I’ll be with other kids.

Putting it simply marketing is a big thing for a business. The great thing is that this meeting will teach marketing 101 at its most basic and understandable level. I wish I could tell you I know everything about marketing, but speaking out of truth I know one thing and that is marketing is 50% math, 30% systems, and 20% new ideas. Right there is about the greatest thing I know about marketing. I think if I go to the super conference it will have a total effect on me. I guarantee I go in only knowing one thing about marketing and come out 99.9% improved. Marketing is one thing I truly love to do and with a boost of knowledge I could be a great marketer, and do what I love.

Amid all the great reasons this super conference can do me good coming out a leader and knowing how to run a business. I always look at starting a business as a elephant taking one bite at a time . I have been trying to start business after business and figured out

  • It is not cheap and free
  • Not easy
  • Gets frustrating

That’s why I need to go to the super conference. I would come back to Arizona and know how to be a team leader and how to start a business. You can’t market without a business or (service,) to provide, and that is why learning how to actually start a business is very important. Imagine your business as a cupcake. The business is the scrumptious cake and the marketing is the delectable icing. Learning how to be a leader and how to start a business is very important to me.

Most importantly learning how to stick to a business is a key thing. I could flat out tell you I do not stick to businesses, I’m lazy when it comes to work, and give up when it’s hard. I could list five businesses I did not stick to. They are

  • Car Wash
  • Lawn Mowing
  • Bike Repair
  • Cupcakes
  • Sports Training

That is some powerful work that would have probably gotten me lots of money if I stuck to them. I think I would come out of the meeting like a new business man, taught and influenced. It is important that I learn how to stick to a business now so I do not give up as an adult. Sticking to a business is important to me, that is a big reason I need to hear Dan Kennedy talk at the super conference.

After all you read, you should take it in an realize I will have to learn all of this stuff later on in life, so why not teach me early. The saying is “Beat the iron while it’s hot,” teach me early. The super conference will have a great effect in a good way. I will come out f this meeting a new business man. I would also like to share some of Dan Kennedy’s sayings.

“The typical entrepreneur does the work of ten salaried employees. If he doesn’t, he’s going to be in trouble”

“I see a lot of casualness and sloppiness and laziness when opportunities present themselves to most people.”

My dad always says

“ 87% of statistics are made up on the spot.”
