Here we are, two days before Super Bowl XVLIII.  I've watched every one of them except for Super Bowl II when I was in DaNang.
All the hoopla about the cold weather in New Jersey reminds me of the coldest Super Bowl to date, Super Bowl IX.  I was in attendance and freezing my butt off with everyone else.  The game was supposed to be played in the brand new New Orleans Superdome.  The dome was not completed on time so the game was played in Tulane Stadium where we sat on cold, cement bleachers.
The Saturday before the game it was 80 degrees, but at kickoff on Sunday it was 39 degrees with a light rain.  We weren't dressed for the weather so we bought 33 gallon garbage bags to shield us from the elements.  Two bags made a makeshift rain suit.  The plumbing at the stadium failed during the game and most of the restrooms were closed by halftime...sure glad we had those garbage bags!
On Friday and Saturday night we prowled the French Quarter.  There were lots of celebrity sightings.  In those days the celebs frequented the same watering holes as the common man during Super Bowl week.  The celebrity I remember the most was Dandy Don Meredeth, the former Dallas Cowboy quarterback who was the color commentator on Monday Night Football at the time.  He walked (staggered) down the middle of the street with a small entourage, weaving from sidewalk to sidewalk.  The huge crowd parted like he was royalty.
As for the game -  a very boring one.  The Steelers beat the Vikings 16 to 6.
